Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation is dedicated to providing disadvantaged urban youth with significant exposure and access to the arts, and to offering exhibition opportunities for underrepresented artists and artists of color. Rush was founded in 1995 by three brothers: Danny Simmons, visual artist and community builder; media mogul Russell Simmons; and Joseph (Rev. Run) Simmons of the legendary hip-hop group RUN-DMC. Their goal was to fill the gap that poor and minorities face in both accessing the arts and exhibition opportunities.
One of the first few AM t-shirts printed. It’s almost been a year since then.

This is what they have to say: “Tropico No. 5 is here. For our fifth instalment we intend to throw another fruity soirée, full of all our usual treats along with extended partying time! SHhhh will be jackin’ upstairs in ‘The Treehouse’, the Tropico selectors will be expertly choosing the best sounds to make you move on the main floor, and to top everything off Nando’s will be joining the party to bequest free chicken vouchers on everyone involved!”

Last year I attempted this. My initial approach was rather naïve. I thought it would be easy, not a lot would be different. The most uncool thing about this.. You cannot accept ‘donated’ food from family or friends. My friends knew this. So I had a fun week of people offering me food – which I couldn’t accept.
From 7th - 11th May, live on just £1 a day for 5 days and make a real difference to the lives of those living in extreme poverty.
